여자로 태어난 것이 원망스럽다 고 자주 푸념을 털어 놓았다

그러나 그녀가 유방암으로 세상으 뜨기 몇달전에야 매리 애닝은 

런던지질학회에 명예회원으로 이름을 올릴수 있게 되었다

그녀는 쥐라기 시대 해양 화석을 수집 발표하여 당대의 고생물하계를 크게 바꾸어 놓았으며

고고학의 어머니로 이름을 불리게 된다
